Our Story

At Growth Factor Hair Clinic, we understand the impact that hair loss can have on you. Our founder, Dr Gwen Adey has firsthand experience of this challenge and and embarked on a journey to find effective solutions. Partnering with Professor Moseley, she explored the latest scientific advancements in non-surgical hair loss therapies.

The Challenges

Despite the availability of evidence-based treatments like Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and low-level laser therapy, Dr. Adey found that GPs and dermatologists only recommended Regaine (minoxidil) as a solution. Frustrated by this extremely limited approach, she knew something had to be done to close the very obvious gap between the scientific advancements that have been made in the last decades and what is actually available to the people suffering with hair loss right now, here in UK.

One of the major challenges is education and adoption of new innovations. In science and medicine, it is by no means uncommon for it to take time for new innovations to become mainstream. Another element is that Platelet Rich Plasma is natural and has no marketing budget from any pharmaceutical firm, so many people who could benefit simply don't know it exists or that it is effective and could help them.

Driven by her passion for finding effective treatments, Dr. Adey dedicated herself to researching the best options available. Her fascination with biostimulator therapies—such as PRP, polynucleotides, and microneedling—led her to develop a deep understanding of how these treatments can help the body regenerate, repair, and rejuvenate.

Medical Professional: All procedures are performed by Dr Gwen Adey BDS MFDS RCS who is a Dental Surgeon and Phlebotomist who has undertaken additional training in PRP. Dr Gwen has 20 years experience using sterile technique.
Safe Medical Devices and Equipment. We will only ever use genuine CE-marked sterile needles and pyrogen-free tubes designed exclusively for safe PRP treatments. Regenlab.
Effective: Our treatments are designed to maintain hair health, improve its condition, and thicken miniaturizing follicles, ensuring that our clients achieve the best possible results.
Comfortable: We prioritize patient comfort by utilizing thin "butterfly" needles for blood draws and an injector meso-gun for fast, precise, and painless injections and microneedling.
Confidential: You can be assured of complete confidentiality and discretion. All information you share, clinical records and clinical photos are stored securely and will never be shared with anybody without your express consent.

We have developed a network of trusted professionals and will not hesitate to refer you if we believe you will benefit from services offered elsewhere. Unable to find a clinic that met her high standards for care, Dr Adey founded Growth Factor Hair Clinic in October 2022.

Community

As a new initiative, from January 2025 we will be holding monthly group sessions for anyone suffering with hair loss who would like to talk to other people also experiencing hair loss. We extend an open invitation to anyone to join, you do not need to be a patient of Growth Factor Hair Clinic. This group will be an open space to talk about your feelings about hair loss in an open and supportive environment.

Philanthropy

Experienced clinician Dr Gwen Adey BDS MFDS RCS and world standing Professor Ryan Moseley BSc PhD form a formidable team, bringing cutting-edge scientific advances to you with gentle care.

Founder CEO & Clinical Director

Dr Gwen Adey BDS Lond MFDS RCS Ed

Dr Adey is a dental surgeon by background, with 19 years experience and 5 years experience in aesthetic medicine. She graduated from Kings College London in 2005 and completed the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh examinations 2008. Prior to founding Growth Factor Hair Clinic, she has worked as a Senior House Officer (Junior Doctor in hospital service) a Clinical Research Fellow (Cardiff University), a General Dental Practitioner and an Aesthetic Medicine Practitioner. Dr Adey is also trained as a certified Phlebotomist. Dr Adey has also been studying trichology and trichoscopy for a number of years and has been a member of the International Society of Trichoscopy since 2022. Dr Adey is known for her gentle injections and has perfected her precise, comfortable method over decades. You will notice Dr Adey's empathy as a fellow alopecia sufferer and feel her determination as a clinician to do the best for you and help you achieve results that will make you feel great.

RegenLab PRP Medical Devices

Swiss products are known for their excellence in quality and RegenLab certainly continue the trend.

RegenLab BCT medical device is purpose made for collecting whole blood and processing it to PRP using the RegenLab centrifuge.

Their PRP tubes are sterile, pyrogen free and designed to have their PRP contents injected into the body.

Sterility is maintained throughout the entire preparation from the blood entering the tube through the internal vacuum, staying sealed within the tube throughout centrifugation and then sterile transfer without air exposure to the sterile syringe for delivery.

Dermatoscope (Trichoscope) and Digital microscope

Detail matters. An up close examination of your hair follicles can give clues to the cause of your hair loss and can be a great tool in monitoring treatment success and change over time. We use a specialist tool called a dermatoscope that uses polarised light together with magnification to give us a new perspective on your hair follicles. You can watch this live in front of your eyes on the ipad screen, which many patients find really interesting.

Painless Injector Gun

Why suffer when you can have painless PRP that is not only more comfortable, but also means a more precise treatment.

Traditional manual injections into the scalp hurt. This is a fact anyone who has ever tried it will tell you.

The U225 device in the skilled hands of Dr Gwen delivers injections that are painless and "relaxing".

One patient described it like this "it felt like a head massage". Another patient falls asleep during their treatments.

Treatments delivered with the U225 are also more precise than could be achieved with manual injections. The injection depth and dose can be extremely tightly controlled and easily adjusted according to the anatomical site and hair follicles.

Ultrasound

We sometimes use Clarius ultra high frequency ultrasound to safely visualise beneath the layers of your scalp so we can accurately place your treatments in exactly the right spot to give the best results. Ultrasound carries no x-ray radiation and is exactly the same as is used on pregnant women in their scans. The ultra advanced technology makes high quality imaging possible and again, you can watch this yourself in real time on the ipad screen in front of you.
